auto racing – BMW to Leave Formula One After 2009 Season

By admin | November 6, 2009

Racing Perth Motorplex Australia

Just what you need on the first day of racing, the sun beating down and bustling crowds, the majority of which are in their best attire of the era which Goodwood is now famous for.

Chairs and a picnic are a must, although there are many eating places to be found including Airstream trailer diners…yet a picnic made up in your mum’s old shopping basket with a checked table cloth draped over the food really adds to the atmosphere! Madgewick Corner is among the favorite places to set up camp for the day as this is the first corner after the start line which is close to all amenities…a must when you’re geared up from head to toe in suitable 1950’s attire, especially the ladies who are donned in their absolute best outfits to be judged at the end of the day.

Formula One has recently had a few rule changes that manufacturers do not like such as aerodynamic restrictions and funding limitations. Fans do not like them as well because it just isn’t exciting to watch anymore and everyone wishes that the sport would go back like it used to be.

Of course one mustn’t forget the air displays which continued throughout the day with the Lancaster gracing us with his presence once more flanked by the Spitfire and the Hurricane…stirring emotions yet again…

Sir Stirling Moss led a lap of honour to celebrate his 80th birthday this week ahead of approximately 80 cars driven by the man himself over his illustrious career…a spectacle to behold with Jackie Stewart driving one of the famous cars.

As for the 2010 year, the thirteenth spot has already been given to the Lotus F1 team. Qadbak Investments Limited has bought the Sauber team after BMW leaves when the 2009 season is done and will run Ferrari engines if they are allowed in either by a team dropping out or other teams agreeing to allow 28 cars in the field.

Tell you what, there’s so much going on at Goodwood Revival I almost forgot to mention Prince Michael of Kent who dropped the flag to open one of the races…another sporting gentleman proud to be a part of this wonderful event.

Lots of tired but happy faces leaving the grounds today to rest and re-charge ready for the next day’s events…
